The Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) is the world's largest stored supply of crude oil, with a capacity of 714 million barrels, and is intended to serve as a reserve stock (hence the name) in the event of a national emergency. The petroleum is stored in four massive salt caverns along the Gulf of America, and as Secretary Wright pointed out, two of these are not only drained but also damaged by the withdrawal. //

The walls of the salt caverns are under tremendous pressure while holding all that oil. The pressure must be released in a controlled manner to avoid damage. The equipment on one cavern was down for maintenance when Biden ordered the release to prop up his poll numbers. ''Crashing the system''...that was and remains the Left's intention so they can raise their soc-com system up from the ashes to take control for good.

The Justice Department has begun the first criminal prosecutions of migrants who breach a newly expanded military zone at the southern border that is patrolled by U.S. troops, threatening people with additional penalties for crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.

At least 28 migrants were charged Monday with crossing into the 170-mile long “National Defense Area,” a 60-foot strip of land that stretches across the bottom of New Mexico and has effectively been turned into part of a U.S. military installation. Prosecutors added the new charge of violating security regulations in U.S. District Court in Las Cruces to the more common misdemeanor of entering the United States illegally. //

That's a brilliant use of government land. Because the U.S. government owns some of the border areas in New Mexico, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was able to declare it a "National Defense Area" and turn it into a restricted military installation, complete with patrols conducted by American troops. That immediately upped the ante, making it criminal to cross into the area, allowing federal authorities to skip a variety of legal hoops and head straight to criminal prosecutions that should be open-and-shut cases.

Last week, Treasury went live with its first automated payment verification system. In total, $334 million in improper payment requests were identified and rejected due to:

-Missing budget codes
-Invalid budget codes (i.e. the payment was not linked to the budget)

Major power facilities require power to operate, and there's lots of unmet demand.

You might think that a power plant could easily start generating power, but in reality, only a limited number of facilities have everything they need to handle a black start. That's because it takes power to make power. Facilities that boil water have lots of powered pumps and valves, coal plants need to pulverize the fuel and move it to where it's burned, etc. In most cases, black-start-rated plants have a diesel generator present to supply enough power to get the plant operating. These tend to be smaller plants, since they require proportionally smaller diesel generators.

The initial output of these black start facilities is then used to provide power to all the plants that need an external power source to operate. This has to be managed in a way that ensures that only other power plants get the first electrons to start moving on the grid, otherwise the normal demand would immediately overwhelm the limited number of small plants that are operating. Again, this has to be handled by facilities that need power in order to control the flow of energy across the grid. This is why managing the grid will never be as simple as "put the hardware on the Internet and control it remotely," given that the Internet also needs power to operate.

It's possible to manage some of this with power brought in from neighboring grids outside the blackout zone. But this also requires that the grid interconnections be isolated from the demand on the blackout side of the connection and send their power directly to idle power plants.

Once sufficient plants are online, a small subset of the grid will be powered, and the plants can manage the synchronization of their alternating current outputs to a single frequency. At this point, it's possible to start meeting demand.

But demand can be massive. Grid failures tend to happen when the grid is stressed by unusually high power demand, such as when heat waves drive high levels of air conditioning use. This means that a lot of the hardware that would be using the electricity is connected and switched on, just waiting for the electrons to appear. Letting all this hardware make demands at once would likely lead to an immediate grid failure and return to blackout conditions. //

While the grids in Spain and Portugal are connected to each other, they have limited connections to elsewhere. The only sources of external power to the grid come from France and Morocco, which are small connections, but they could be used to help black start some plants. Both blacked-out countries have significant hydropower, with Spain seeing it cover 10 percent of its demand and Portugal 25 percent. That's useful because hydro plants need very little in the way of an external power supply to start operating. //

Solar is not an ideal power source for black-starting the grid, given that it's unavailable for a significant chunk of the day. But solar panels produce direct current, with electronic systems matching it to the alternating current of the grid. With the right electronics, it can play a key role in keeping frequencies stable as grid segments are repowered. In productive areas, wind can provide black start power to other plants and doesn't need much external power to begin operations. It's unclear, however, whether the local wind hardware is equipped for black starts or if the local weather will cooperate (a quick check of the weather in various cities suggests it's relatively calm there). //

The Qatari government is funding teacher salaries, curriculums, and programming in school districts large and small across the country, allowing the small country to pursue a scheme of indoctrinating America’s youth.

That is what the first batch of public records requests from OpenTheBooks, reviewed by The Federalist, shows. The “cradle-to-graduation propaganda pipeline” includes grooming teachers to advance Qatari influence and talking points, angling soft cultural changes through language and field trip opportunities, and ultimately, as OpenTheBooks points out, creating “the next generation of activists ready to sew chaos on college campuses.”

Unfortunately, DOGE has thus far failed to achieve significant savings because Musk has instead focused on high profile culture war targets to maximize headlines rather than the quiet, boring work of deficit reduction.

MAGA Republicans may thrill at attempts to defund DEI contracts, Politico subscriptions, government employees and foreign aid. Yet this spending is barely a rounding error in the federal budget. //

So while Musk’s target savings have fallen from $2 trillion annually, to $1 trillion and now
$150 billion, its “wall of receipts” has verified just $2 billion of savings — or 1/35 of 1 percent of federal spending. //

Three-quarters of all federal spending goes to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, defense, veterans and interest, and the final quarter includes priorities such as infrastructure, justice, border security, national parks, unemployment benefits, disaster aid and disability benefits.

Trump has already taken much of this spending off the table for cuts, and Congress is highly unlikely to gut these functions. //

A serious war on bloated federal contracts would begin in the Defense Department, where procurement contracts routinely face cost overruns in the billions of dollars. //

Yet DOGE has seemingly lacked both the expertise and patience to sufficiently prioritize the hard work of rebuilding the payment systems across hundreds of federal programs.

It is jarring to see DOGE claim success even as congressional Republicans quietly passed a budget that expands budget deficits by an additional $5.8 trillion over the decade. //

There is a responsible path forward. Stop focusing on flashy “spending cut theater” targets and dig into the hard work of reforming entitlement payment systems, defense contract overruns and program duplication. //

Such non-ideological savings reforms will have the added benefit of likely winning congressional approval, making them fully legal and sustainable.

Otherwise, Trump supporters may be surprised at the end of the year when — after all the tweets, promises and headlines — spending and deficits have sharply climbed again.

Pro-abortion activists have responded to the end of Roe v. Wade with a nationwide mail-order abortion drug distribution system. States such as New York are protecting those shipping abortion drugs around the nation, even as they break state and federal laws and injure women. As it turns out, women’s health and even a woman’s supposedly all-important “right to choose” matter less to abortion advocates than ensuring abortion drugs continue to flow. //

In contrast to Anderson and Hall’s work to measure the risks of abortion drugs, Democrats have done their best to keep the dangers hidden, even while insisting abortion drugs are safe. What’s more, the safeguards and reporting requirements put in place when the abortion drug was initially approved by the Clinton administration have been all but eliminated. As the report recounts, “During the Obama and Biden administrations, the FDA chipped away at these initial safeguards, risking women’s health in order to increase access to abortion.”

Now instead of in-person visits with a doctor, who can check for contraindications (such as ectopic pregnancy) and ensure emergency care is available, the FDA requires only one telehealth visit with a prescriber, who may not even be a physician, and who may reduce the “visit” to a simple online form. Abortion drugs may then be obtained from a mail-order pharmacy and taken at home alone, with no plan or facilities for emergency care if there are complications. Worse still, the FDA removed any formal reporting requirements (which were always loosely enforced) for prescribers unless they know a patient has died — and, of course, in this mail-order abortion regime, they won’t know.

There’s nothing Christian about Never Trumpers’ smear tactics against faithful believers. //

This year’s award for best use of shame-and-smear tactics, however, goes to French. Since the election, he has taken off the gloves. The Trump presidency is the result not of many constituencies that used to vote Democrat stitched together. No, this presidency and what French terms “chaos and cruelty” are the gifts of the white evangelical church, whom he calls to “repentance.”

What makes French’s arguments inflammatory is that he willfully ignores the failings of Democrats. French chastises the current administration for pardoning “their own thugs” but will not mention Biden pardoning his influence-peddling son or many others, apparently by autopen. America has failed to live up to its ideals, but when searching for an example, French retreats to Jim Crow and slavery. What about the left’s recent and glaring failures to live up to ideals, like selling the body parts of babies or saddling children’s futures with unnecessary school closings? The last four years hold a plethora of possibilities for failed American ideals.

When asked if he could find anything notable in Trump’s policies, French reluctantly cited a more controlled border. Nothing else good to see here. He lays the failures of this administration squarely at the feet of conservative Christians. But he takes no responsibility for the sins of the radical Democrat leaders he supported. French wraps his finger-pointing in compassion and Jesus language.

As a marriage therapist and a Christian, this sort of shaming, where one party must always be “the bad one,” is a bright red flag. This is the kiss of death in relationships, and it’s a deep disservice to the church.

It is also especially odd coming from Christians. Our theology insists all human nature is flawed and thus no one has a corner on goodness or truth. We see through a glass darkly until Jesus returns. It might be a good idea to cut each other some slack, clean up our own backyard, and work harder to “preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Since we are sitting in the same pews, and all that.

Are there any real and credible statistics supporting a menacing movement by Christians seeking to theocratize America with neo-Naziism? //

What fills the dark vacuum remaining when Christian culture is chased away? Look around you and see the bombardment of Western civilization once founded upon God’s Word and Christ’s church. God is the sovereign Lord of all human institutions and history, and faith in God’s providence has never justified a retreat from vocational obligations in the public sphere and the gifts of God of which we are called to be godly stewards.

Furthermore, Christians who criticize and discourage active Christian political participation indirectly embrace a national anti-Christian religion that unabashedly pursues the demise of the Kingdom of God and the gospel on earth. Which is a greater threat to church and society: the rhetorical phantom of Christian nationalism, or the real phenomenon of Christian apathy?

And they want this area to be an example of climate change sustainability. Which is why they are dragging their feet on issuing permits. The home owners have to comply with all new build regulations that are approved by the activists. Materials etc all have to meet sustainable check off. On Monday, a reporter at the White House tried to nail Homeland Security advisor and White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller on the question of the deportations of the mothers. It did not go well for the reporter. The reporter asked if it was the "best use of the administration's resources" to go after "moms of young kids." Miller then completely turned it around on the guy. He asked him if he had an opinion on "what percentage" of the illegal aliens of the estimated 10 million illegal aliens that Joe Biden let into the country should get to stay.

"Is it your view that if a Democrat president releases 10, 15, 20 million illegal into the country — they all then should get to stay forever and for all of their life?" Miller inquired of the reporter.

When the reporter wouldn't answer, Millet just wrecked him, "You don't want to answer the question, because you know the answer. It's obvious — everyone that Biden let in has to go home. Of course. It's a crazy thing to even ask."

Why didn't the instructor pilot directly order Lobach to turn left? And why didn't he take over? Here's one reason the flight instructor, Warrant Officer Eaves, might have worded it the way he did, and why he might have hesitated to take over:

Captain Lobach was the highest-ranking soldier on the helicopter, but Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Loyd Eaves, who was acting as her instructor, had flown more than twice as many hours over time.

Yep. Even though Eaves had flown twice as many hours over time and was qualified to be her instructor, she outranked him - and the third crew member had more flight hours than both Eaves and Lobach. One retired Black Hawk pilot who spoke to members of Lobach's unit claims she "was on her fifth check ride after failing four previous ones" and that "the unit has been threatened not to talk to the press about her...the unit still has very woke and DEI loving leaders there." (Note: We have not yet independently verified the claim that she was on her fifth check ride.)

Veteran Sam Shoemate asked the same question on X, and had the same takeaway (emphasis mine).

That's the question so many are asking. I don't know, and you don't know. What I do know is there is a climate in our military that is fearful of questioning decisions, or seemingly untouchable individuals, for fear of halting one's career in its tracks.

Not too long ago there was a Lieutenant running the show within her unit, because she'd befriended the commanding general of her installation on social media, and everyone in her chain of command knew she was untouchable. I spoke to her company commander, and he told me she was given a free pass to do as she pleased because of it. The chain of command was compromised because of her friendly proximity to the most senior person on her installation, and no one was willing to question that because of the overall command climate that had been created.

New ChoiceJacking attack allows malicious chargers to steal data from phones. //

About a decade ago, Apple and Google started updating iOS and Android, respectively, to make them less susceptible to “juice jacking,” a form of attack that could surreptitiously steal data or execute malicious code when users plug their phones into special-purpose charging hardware. Now, researchers are revealing that, for years, the mitigations have suffered from a fundamental defect that has made them trivial to bypass.

“Juice jacking” was coined in a 2011 article on KrebsOnSecurity detailing an attack demonstrated at a Defcon security conference at the time. Juice jacking works by equipping a charger with hidden hardware that can access files and other internal resources of phones, in much the same way that a computer can when a user connects it to the phone. //

Researchers at the Graz University of Technology in Austria recently made a discovery that completely undermines the premise behind the countermeasure: They’re rooted under the assumption that USB hosts can’t inject input that autonomously approves the confirmation prompt. Given the restriction against a USB device simultaneously acting as a host and peripheral, the premise seemed sound. The trust models built into both iOS and Android, however, present loopholes that can be exploited to defeat the protections. The researchers went on to devise ChoiceJacking, the first known attack to defeat juice-jacking mitigations.
