Well, I thought the Republicans did a particularly good job today. Often the Democrats are way ahead in framing of hearings, but at points the Democrats seemed almost a border on the delusional.
When you had Hur say ‘I did not exonerate the president’ and then Democrats would say ‘OK, so you exonerated the president’ and he would say ‘No, I didn’t’ and they would say ‘Thank you for that, with that exoneration.’
So for a lot of people watching, they probably kept on having to sort of reverse and see if they missed something here. //
Turley continued:
The fact is that Hur tried over and over again to distinguish between his findings, which is that he was not confident he could convict if he did bring any charges, and the statement of Democrats that the president was cleared. //
I'm not a prosecutor but it seems to me after listening to multiple legal opinions — including Turley, several times — on this case that it should have been left to a jury to determine whether or not Biden is sufficiently competent to be held accountable.
What am I missing? Other than the reality of the two-tier justice system, I mean. //

I am of mixed minds as to whether Hur is going with the incompetency excuse because he doesn't think he can get a conviction in a DC or Delaware jury pool. HOWEVER, Joe Biden broke the law and basically committed espionage. There are people in prison for the same thing, but one or two instances, not 40 freaking years worth. Joe Biden should still be charged as soon as he is no longer a sitting president and at least make the effort. Make him spend some of those millions on defending himself, just like Trump! //

One of the things that has always struck me in Hur's report, and again during the hearing, was what it didn't say/emphasize: these were crimes committed not NOW...but decades ago when Biden WAS fully functioning and aware of what he did. To me, THAT is the way a prosecutor would handle this case. Hur is trying to place it all NOW, when that's not the case at all. Or am I missing something in Hur's defense of his report? //

Respectfully disagree. While I would certainly like Biden to be tried/impeached/etc. for what is a lengthy spell of purloining items that he had no right to be in possession of, the reality - for me - is that Hur far exceeded what anyone thought he would be able to do.
His "unsatisfying" conclusion (because we DO want to see actual justice done to the crook) was brilliant: the pro-Biden DoJ couldn't squash the report b/c of the way Hur framed his conclusions. Similarly, it leaves the door open down the road for someone to say, "The heck with that, let's see if a jury will convict him" b/c the report did NOT exonerate Biden. Quite the contrary, it laid out that Biden committed crimes.

I'm old enough to remember when Trump was impeached for asking Ukraine's leaders to look into Biden's corruption in that country. And here we have a President whose administration is actively looking at options to undermine the government of one of our most important allies.

American Jews have had best friends in 3 US presidents:
1) George Washington.
He wrote a letter to the Hebrew Congregation of Rhode Island, saying, among other things:
“May the children of the stock of Abraham who dwell in this land continue to merit and enjoy the good will of the other inhabitants—while every one shall sit in safety under his own vine and fig tree and there shall be none to make him afraid.”
Basically, he welcomed the Jewish people to this great country.
2) Thomas Jefferson.
His was one of the few voices in the early republic fervently championing equal political rights for Jews. Jefferson’s Bill for Establishing Religious Freedom in Virginia is a classic American statement of religious toleration.
After the Revolution he wrote a Jewish physician to say:
“Religious freedom is the most effectual anodyne against religious dissension.” Jefferson said he was delighted to see American Jews assuming full social rights and hoped “they will be seen taking their seats on the benches of science as preparatory to their doing the same at the board of government.”
3) Donald Trump.
In his first month in office Trump set about to accomplish the Abraham Accords — specifically taking the Palestinian lynchpin out of the equation and making US aid and support to countries like Saudi Arabia and UAE conditional upon relations with Israel.
In 2019 President Trump signed an executive order that broadened Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to apply to discrimination based on anti-Semitism.
None of the networks carried it. Most Jews don’t even know about it.
In 2017, during his first year in office, Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, helping fulfill a 2000 year old dream for world Jewry.
Trump is also the first and only US president to have Jewish children and grandchildren, and the first to have a rabbi do the benediction at his inauguration.
The list of what Trump has done for the Jewish people goes on and on. You would think American Jewry, including the so-called political leaders like Schumer, Schiff, Nadler, and their ilk would recognize this and be grateful.
It’s time for American Jews to wake up and see reality. The Dems no longer are our friends. But Donald Trump has been a very loyal one.

The first point so many made was how the folks on the right looked just like everyone imagined the Biden HQs rapid response team would look -- like a bunch of NYU theater kids, as one person on X put it.
That explains so much about why we are in the mess we are now. The picture appears to be them checking out the State of the Union and/or its aftermath. What was hilarious was while the talking points on the left are that Biden hit a "home run," none of them look happy at all with what is going on. Kapp also clearly has no idea what that picture looks like. It looks like the picture of the Hillary people who cried in 2016, some on X observed. This is the adults back in charge?

According to the report, Biden flew in 320,000 of them last year. //
Included in details of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit first reported by Todd Bensman, the Center for Immigration Studies found Biden's CBP approved the latest secretive flights that transported hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants from foreign countries into at least 43 different American airports from January through December 2023.
The program was part of Biden's expansion of the CBP One app, which kicked off at the start of last year.
Migrants were able, under Biden's expansion, to apply for asylum using the app from their home countries.
But the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) notes that the transportation of these migrants directly to the U.S. is one of the lesser known uses of the app.
Aliens who cannot legally enter the U.S. use CBP One to apply for travel authorization and temporary humanitarian release from those airports.
Under this parole release, migrants are able to remain in the U.S. for two years without obtaining legal status and meanwhile are eligible for work authorization.

Quite honestly, Lankford's position is utterly insane. This bill leaves the border no different than it is today, changes laws to make them more lenient, funds the chaos, and strips border states of the ability to effectively challenge this law in court. //
This bill is a solution looking for a problem.

We've reached an interesting point in the decline of the republic. The point where people are both willing and unashamed to openly state bald-faced lies that are diametric opposition to objective reality... and almost no one will say anything. It's both fascinating and alarming to watch as politicians make claims that are clearly the opposite of the plain text of the bill.
They've always lied, of course. They might shade the truth. They might omit important but controversial points when talking about a bill. They might even make hyperbolic pronouncements ("Republicans want to take away Social Security"). But we seem to have arrived at a time when they're quite willing to insist, against all the evidence of our senses, that "we've always been at war with East Asia."

In short, Ukraine gets a bunch of cash, some insanely weak border enforcement provisions are put in place that expire after three years, and Biden gets the authority to override them immediately anyway. Does that sound like something Republicans should be signing onto, especially in an election year? This nonsense is DOA, and the House should rip it apart and shove it back in the face of the Senate.

NEW: The large majority of illegal crossings at the southern border are now happening in AZ & CA, as a shift away from TX continues.
Per CBP sources, 23,576 of them – 71.8% – were in Arizona and California. Notably, the numbers in Texas' Del Rio sector, which includes Eagle Pass, have fallen off a cliff. In December, the sector saw days of 3,000-4,000 illegal crossings per day. Over the last week, it has averaged around just 200.
