“To think that we can draw some useful analogies from history dramatically underestimates the novelty and scale of the climate challenge.”[2]
“In the contest between geopolitics and sustainable climate policies, the former takes precedence.”[3]
Starting in the early 1980s, I have spent my entire professional life studying climate change, as well as teaching, writing and speaking about it in universities, conferences, and public forums around the world—in 43 countries at the latest count. With such a professional and personal investment in the idea of climate change, it is not surprising that for a long period I uncritically absorbed the notion that climate change represented the pre-eminent challenge facing humanity in the twenty-first century.
Since first immersing myself in the topic in the 1980s, and subsequently being part of the scientific and public story of climate change in the 1990s and 2000s[4], I was easily convinced that the growing human influence on the world’s climate would be a reality that all nations would increasingly need to confront, a reality to which their interests would necessarily be subservient and that would be decisive for shaping their development pathways. For more than half of these 40 or so years, it seemed to me self-evident that relations between nations would forcibly be re-shaped by the exigencies of a changing climate.
But now, in the mid-2020s, I can see that I got this the wrong way round. And I can also see why this was so. Rather than geopolitics having to bend to the realities of a changing climate, the opposite has happened. //
Now, 30 years later, it is the geopolitical truth that power and interests win out. Climate is not the only thing that is changing through our lifetimes, and perhaps not the most important thing. Technology, cultural values, the centres of political, economic and military power have all changed remarkably since I first started studying climate change 40 years ago; and the rules, cohesion and effectiveness of the international order that I assumed were eternal are being seriously called into question. I now see the need for a deeper reading of political realism and power, that goes beyond seeing science as a coercive force that trumps geopolitics, beyond appeals to a superficial cosmopolitanism. To use the language of Jason Maloy at Louisiana University, climate change is neither an emergency or a crisis; it is a political epic, “a process of collective human effort that features gradual progression through time, obscure problem origins, and anticlimactic outcomes.”[25]
The best that we can say is that the world will continue slowly to decarbonize its energy system and, at the same time, the Earth will continue slowly to warm. And societies will continue to adapt to evolving climate hazards in new ways, as they have always done, with winners and losers along the way.

It's been evident that the Trump family maintains a close relationship with Don's ex — Vanessa seems to be present at most family events — so it's not surprising to hear the president speak fondly of her. It struck me, though, that he seemed genuinely saddened by the breakup of his son's marriage — and it was fascinating to learn he blames it in part on the Russia collusion hoax. We often speak of it in terms of how it affected Trump himself, but it's easy to look past the impact it had on his family, as well.
What was clear from the exchange is that President Trump genuinely cares about both his former daughter-in-law and Woods. It might just be me, but it seems like in addition to seeing a focused and more disciplined Donald Trump these days, we're also seeing a softer side of him.
Since she mentions Social Security, let's start with the obvious. How does an illegal immigrant manage to pay into that program without committing fraud? Social Security numbers are only given to citizens and permanent residents. So is the argument that criminality is fine as long as you contribute taxes along the way? Because that sure seems like the argument. //
In 2024, fiscal outlays totaled around $7 trillion dollars. That means illegal immigrants contribute just 1.43 percent toward total annual expenditures. That already doesn't sound like a lot, but when you consider that illegal immigrants make up 6.25 percent of the population (using the commonly accepted estimate that there are 20 million of them in the country), then their contributions become even more minuscule.
But wait, there's more. That $100 billion number Crockett is citing is actually from a 2022 study conducted by the Institution on Taxation and Economic Policy, and it includes state and local taxes paid as well. So the above percentage I cited is actually much less on the federal level, and when you dig deeper, illegal immigrants only contribute around $25 billion to Social Security. How much does that entitlement cost taxpayers a year? The answer is a whopping $1.7 trillion, meaning illegal immigrants pay for just 1.47 percent of Social Security. That is the supposedly massive, irreplaceable contribution to the program that Crockett and other Democrats are asserting should override immigration laws. //
in 2023, it was estimated that the federal government spent $66 billion on illegal immigrants for medical care and various entitlements like food stamps. That doesn't even count how much it costs to house, clothe, and feed those who are being detained at various Customs and Border Patrol facilities. //

Let’s just look at education cost. An estimated 620,000 illegal alien children are enrolled in K-12. The average cost is about $18,600 per students (with the ESL and other needs immigrants may cost more, but I’ll use the average). That would be $11.5 Billion per year just for education of the illegal kids. That does not include the anchor babies.
In this article, I’ll show you how I hatch brown brine shrimp and answer some of the most common questions.
This may be news to you, as it was to me, but brine shrimp (artemia) are not actually shrimps. They do however belong to same group ‘crustaceans’ as shrimps do. As a kid, you may have heard of them being referred to as ‘Sea Monkeys’ or ‘Sea Dragons’ and them being sold in toy stores.
Nevertheless, baby brine shrimp are a very nutritious snack for your saltwater fish. Adults are less nutritious, unless enriched, but are still a nice addition to your main fish food.
It’s not exactly difficult to figure out how much space you’ve got left when you’re using OpenZFS–but it is different from doing so on traditional filesystems, as OpenZFS brings considerably more complexity to the table. Space accounting in OpenZFS requires a different approach due to factors like snapshots, compression, and deduplication.
By the time we’re done today, we’ll understand:
-
how to use both filesystem-agnostic tools like du and df
-
OpenZFS-native tools like zfs list and zpool list.
OpenZFS brings new concepts to filesystem management that muddy this simple picture a bit: snapshots, inline compression, and block-level deduplication. To effectively manage our OpenZFS filesystem, we’ll need to begin by understanding three properties: USED, REFER, and AVAIL.
All three properties revolve around the status of logical sectors, not physical sectors.
Replication is an OpenZFS feature that really ups the data management game, providing a mechanism for handling a hardware failure with minimal data loss and downtime. Fortunately, replication itself is easy to configure and understand. In this article we’ll keep things simple, and practice replicating small amounts of data to a virtual machine.
zrep simplifies ZFS replication for the use-case we’re demonstrating. However, we’ll also discuss many concepts and aspects of ZFS that are not specific to zrep. zrep itself is not available from ports, but it only consists of a single shell script. The stable version of zrep needs ksh as its operating shell, though the newer version from GitHub can also use bash. The script needs to be installed in a directory that is included in $PATH on both systems. On FreeBSD, you may want to change the first line to point to the correct location of ksh or bash in /usr/local/bin.
Initially, it may also be useful to setup keys to allow password-less ssh logins for root between the two systems. This was covered in the article Introduction to ZFS Replication. You may later prefer an alternative to ssh and perhaps to use zfs allow to avoid using root but a familiar tool like ssh is convenient. //
One possible scenario occurs where we’ve used a forced takeover from the standby system to deal with the production system being fully down. When the broken system does come up again, the ZFS properties will still identify it as the master and the dataset will be writable. This can be manually rectified on the formerly broken system by putting the properties into the correct state for a standby system as follows:
zfs inherit zrep:master tank/zrep-test
zfs set readonly=on tank/zrep-test
Any attempts to perform syncs with zrep will potentially still fail because changes have occurred to the dataset on both sides. While it is generally able to cope automatically, it is useful to know how to rollback the datasets on the standby system to the last successfully sent snapshot so that zrep can work again. This is a solution for nearly all failure scenarios.
For a rollback, the first step is to identify the last snapshot that was sent successfully.
Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), indicated he will be turning his crew's attention to members of Congress who have amassed fortunes despite having base salaries under $200,000.
The tech mogul and philanthropist made the comments during a rally in Wisconsin for state Supreme Court candidate Judge Brad Schimel.
"A lot of strangely wealthy members of Congress - where I just can't - I'm trying to connect the dots of how did they become rich," he told those in attendance.
"How'd they get $20 million if they're earning $200,000 a year? Nobody can explain that," added Musk. "We're gonna try to figure it out and certainly stop it from happening."
The Department of Justice sued Thursday night to decertify labor unions representing eight federal agencies. The lawsuit was in response to President Trump's Executive Order titled Exclusions From Federal Labor-Management Relations Programs. This executive order vastly expanded the number of agencies granted an exception to the right to unionize under Title VII of the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978;

"They're doing it again because you didn't hang them last time" - meme on X. Author unknown.
So when his "tracker" tried to nail Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) with a "gotcha," it didn't quite go as the man would have liked. “Do you trust Trump's national security team to keep our war plans secret?” the "tracker" asked.
Tim Burchett's epic reply, “Do you trust your mother every night to fix your Hot Pockets and make sure your Game Boy is turned on?”
The Boeing E-4B, known as the “Doomsday Plane,” is the airborne command center for the United States government during national emergencies meant to ensure continuity of government command after nuclear attack, major natural disasters, or terrorism. And it’s a fleet of old Boeing 747-200s that’s difficult to find parts for. //
The E-4 was developed in the early 1970s as the National Emergency Airborne Command Post. The first was delivered in 1973 (“E-4A”) and three of the planes were upgraded to higher specs (“E-4B”) in 1985. Four E-4Bs are currently in operation, maintained by the 1st Airborne Command out of Offutt Air Force Base outside of Omaha. //
Since the planes are now 50 years old, they’ve become incredibly costly to maintain. The Government Accountability Office estimates a cost of $372,496 per flight hour, and spare parts procurement is difficult as there’s no longer an active world fleet of similar aircraft.
Last April, the Air Force awarded a $13 billion contract to Sierra Nevada Corporation for developing the next-gen Doomsday Plane” called the Survivable Airborne Operations Center. These will be ex-Korean Air Boeing 747-8s. The first of these aircraft arrived at Sierra Nevada facilities late last year to start conversion. The fleet will grow to 10 “E-4C” aircraft by 2036. //

The Dems blew it. They could have had a second term of Trump 1.0 crippled by covid, but they just HAD to steal the 2020 election. The result is Trump 2.0, who is absolutely running rampant over the deep state. //

It's pretty amazing that the Dems' installation of the cadaver-in-chief puppet president is proving to be the biggest political miscalculation in history. They gifted Trump 4 long years to plan, and he and his crew are kicking the donk's butt every day with a vengeance. It's a beautiful thing to watch. Major h/t to Susie Wiles for managing the speeding Trump train. The fact that you never hear much about her is a testament to her professionalism and expertise. I thought the last 4 years would never end. Now I want this 4 years to last forever. //

Wiles is good because she has old-fashioned honor, integrity, and a sense of mission. She's not operating out of ego, she's not gathering material for a tell-all memoir, she's not trying to set herself up as a future lobbyest. She just believes in what Trump is trying to do and doing her best to make it happen. And he knows that and trusts her. It's a great relief after the series of failed Chiefs of Staff during Trump 1.0.

The Marxist woke religion invented a new version of original sin which, unlike Christianity, only applies to certain people and offers no possibility for salvation or redemption. If an outside government wanted to demoralize and destabilize the US, this is how they'd do it, but this is an inside job.
Marxist Methods of Demoralization
Infiltration of Education:
- The education system is targeted to indoctrinate younger generations with ideologies that challenge traditional values and national identity.
- Historical narratives are distorted, and critical thinking is replaced with ideological conformity.
Manipulation of Media:
- Media outlets are used to spread disinformation, promote divisive narratives, and undermine trust in institutions.
- Entertainment industries (e.g., Hollywood) are leveraged to normalize alternative ideologies and cultural relativism.
Undermining Cultural Institutions:
- Traditional values such as religion, family structures, and patriotism are systematically attacked.
- The family unit may be replaced by allegiance to the state, as seen in parallels with Mao's Cultural Revolution.
Promotion of Moral Relativism:
- Societal norms are inverted, celebrating victimhood and dependence while vilifying strength and independence.
- This creates confusion around truth and morality, fostering passivity among citizens.
Psychological Conditioning:
- Individuals are conditioned to accept contradictory beliefs (akin to Orwell’s "Doublethink"), making them unable to discern truth even when presented with factual evidence.
Outcome of Demoralization
Cognitive Paralysis:
- Citizens lose the ability to critically analyze information or recognize manipulation. Even when exposed to authentic facts, their perception remains distorted.
- Such individuals become "programmed" to react predictably to stimuli aligned with the subverter's goals.
Erosion of National Identity:
- The population becomes detached from its historical and cultural roots, weakening societal cohesion and pride in national values.
Generational Indoctrination:
Demoralization over an extended period of time results in widespread acceptance of the subverter’s ideology among key influencers in government, media, and academia.
Inability to Resist Subversion:
- A demoralized society becomes passive and incapable of mounting effective resistance against external or internal threats. This sets the stage for destabilization, the next phase in ideological subversion.
Reversing demoralization requires significant effort over generations, as deeply ingrained perceptions are difficult to change once established.
BILL MAHER: "Why do we need to subsidize? We're so polarized. These outlets became popular at a time when Republicans and Democrats didn't hate each other and weren't at each other's throats and didn't think each other was an existential threat. In that world, you can't have places like this, I think, anymore. They have to be private.". //

I hate that equivocation of Maher’s. “We all hate each other”.
It’s like the Paly’s and Israelis. If the Paly’s let down their arms, there would be peace. If the Israelis did, they would cease to exist.
If the Dems stopped being insane and terrorist sympathizers…we could have a great country. If the Republicans stopped trying to g to fight their insanity, we would cease to be a country.
Our fight matters, and it’s not because we ”hate each other”, Maher.

n ZFS, storage pools, or zpools, are the fundamental units of storage management. A zpool aggregates the capacity of physical devices into a single, logical storage space. All data, including datasets, snapshots, and volumes, is stored within zpools. The management of these storage pools is essential for ensuring that ZFS operates efficiently and reliably. The following sections describe how to create and destroy zpools, manage devices within a pool, and monitor the health of a zpool.
Creating and Destroying zpools
Creating a ZFS Storage Pool
To create a zpool, use the zpool create command. The syntax for creating a pool requires specifying a pool name and the devices that will be part of the pool. Below are several examples demonstrating different configurations.

It's probably every musician's worst nightmare: imagine yourself sitting on stage ready to play a concerto and the orchestra begins to perform a completely different piece...😮
That's exactly what happened to the great Maria João Pires in 1999 when she stepped in to replace another pianist on short notice. In a formidable tour de force performance, Pires changed course and miraculously didn't miss a beat of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 (and not No. 23 like she had been expecting!) alongside Riccardo Chailly and the Concertgebouworkest. 🤦 https://bit.ly/42qubHB //

As a musician, I’ve noticed people commenting on her ability to “switch it on” or “go into flow state” but I can tell you this is simply what 10,000 hours of practice looks like. She is a musical warrior and she has put the time into honing and refining her skill. All that is to take nothing away from her obvious raw talent, but this isn’t a mystical experience or a Jedi mind trick, it’s the end result of years - decades - of passion and hard, hard work. //
