Earlier this year, Herschend agreed to buy Palace Entertainment and its 20 U.S. parks across 10 states from European theme park company Parques Reunidos. While Herschend may not be a household name, many theme park enthusiasts know some of its biggest assets, including Dollywood, Silver Dollar City, the Harlem Globetrotters, and Kentucky Kingdom.
The acquisition gave Herschend some of the country’s best-known theme parks, including Kennywood and Dutch Wonderland in Pennsylvania and Lake Compounce in Connecticut, America’s first theme park. Herschend Parks averages around 20 million visitors annually, putting it on par with United Parks and Resorts, owners of Busch Gardens and SeaWorld, who average around 21 million visitors annually.
However, Dollywood is the crown jewel of Herschend’s theme parks. The Dolly Parton creation is routinely voted the best theme park in America, beating out giants like Disney World and the Universal Orlando Resort.
If airlines are no longer required to disclose fees upfront, passengers may face a barrage of surprise charges, from baggage fees to seat selection costs. The cost of air travel could increase significantly, even if base fares appear lower. //
The proposal to eliminate the guarantee that families will be seated together without extra charges could lead to more stress for families travelling with young children. Parents may find themselves paying additional fees just to sit next to their kids. //
Airlines would have more power to decide whether or not to refund passengers for flight cancellations. //
In Europe, stricter regulations have led to fewer delays and cancellations, and the market remains competitive with budget airlines thriving under the current system. The fear is that deregulation in the U.S. could result in a situation where airlines dominate the market, and passengers are left with fewer rights and more fees.

You could be forgiven for thinking that using the bathroom is an activity so universal that the idiosyncrasies of travel do not apply. True, few of us have failed to ponder the celebrity-endorsed, one-of-a-kind toilets of Japan. And, sure, most of us understand on an almost instinctive level that some tourist cities have worse public restroom access than others. But when it comes down to the brass tacks of the issue, the restroom is a place of biological necessity, and the less said about what goes on within them, the better. //
Meanwhile, over in Italy, the rules surrounding basic bathroom use are as complex as they are delightfully eccentric. They can take you on a journey, for sure, such as attempts to decipher the peculiar signage or exploratory dives into the inner workings of exotic flushing mechanisms. Such things cannot be intuited; they must be learned. Here, then, is everything you need to know about bathrooms in the Italian peninsula.

Take the stress out of packing with these top tips
Notably, traveling east is often harder on the body than traveling west, as Kopp often experienced herself, because it forces the body to sleep earlier than it’s accustomed to; conversely, traveling west is generally easier to adapt to.
Kopp’s approach, while it hasn’t been formally studied, does align with some emerging research on circadian biology. Fasting during travel and delaying the first meal until arrival may help shift the body’s “food clock,” a secondary circadian system that responds to eating times. And studies suggest meal timing can influence how quickly the body adjusts to a new time zone: Some experts recommend eating only light meals during flights, but then doing activities in your local time zone like eating and sleeping as soon as you arrive, to help reset internal rhythms.
The Knuth diamond sign collection, from http://www-cs-faculty.stanford.edu/~knuth/diamondsigns/dia
During our summer vacation in 2003, my wife and I amused ourselves by taking leisurely drives in Ohio and photographing every diamond-shaped highway sign that we saw along the roadsides. (Well, not every sign; only the distinct ones.) For provenance, I also stood at the base of each sign and measured its GPS coordinates.
This turned out to be even more fun than a scavenger hunt, so we filled in some gaps when we returned to California. And we intend to keep adding to this collection as we drive further, although we realize that we may have to venture to New England in order to see `FROST HEAVES'.

In an internal American Airlines Jetwire for employees, the company shared what happened to a group of school children visiting Washington, D.C. from Bermuda on June 15th.
Seventy one students and their chaperones had flown non-stop to Washington’s National airport on American. They were ticketed on a connecting flight back through Miami, and their DC to Miami segment was delayed by weather. They were going to miss their connection home. //
So American Airlines decided to add a dedicated flight just for this school trip. //
Since National airport is an American Airlines hub, and crew base, they were able to pick up crew that were on reserve to work the trip. They used a 128-seat Airbus A319 dedicated to the group. //
This was an even more expensive move that American made for these passengers than it seems at first glance. That’s because they didn’t just have to fly an extra plane to Bermuda – they had to get it back, too. They didn’t need to operate an extra Bermuda departure that day. So American paid to ferry the plane back to National airport, too.
The Register's Geek's Guide series for explorers who love feats of tech and engineering prowess took a trip to the European mainland to see exhibits ranging from an Air France Concorde and a Soviet Tupolev Tu-144 "Concordski" to a Buran prototype, alongside various industrial marvels.
The spot? Well there are two of them: The Speyer and Sinsheim museums, both well worth a visit the next time you're in southwest Germany.
The two museums can be accessed by driving an hour south from the closest large airport, Frankfurt, and represent an effort, beginning in 1981, by a gang of vintage enthusiasts keen to show off their vehicles. The collection has since grown to include a variety of military hardware, a good number of aircraft, and, of course, the supersonic airliners and the Buran prototype. //
A two-day pass is €52 or €42 for children between 5 and 14 and includes a show at the IMAX theaters on each site, although we didn't bother with a viewing since there was more than enough at each museum to look at it.
There is also a parking charge at both museums.

The problem has gotten out of hand. On Southwest flights to SW Florida, they are often called miracles flights. I've seen as many as 25 people in wheelchairs waiting to board a flight. When we arrived in Florida, only 2 people requested wheelchairs to exit. The others scurried off the plane quickly.
