In the words of Sir Arthur "Bomber" Harris, "The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind."
Passkeys are an asymmetric key pair
Each passkey is a pair of two related asymmetric cryptographic keys, which are very long, random strings of characters. While they differ from each other, they do have a special relationship - one can decrypt messages that have been encrypted by the other. This feature can be used to verify a user and authenticate them.
The key pair is made up of a private key that’s kept securely on your device, inside a password manager supporting passkeys (also called a passkey provider), and a public key that’s stored on the website you are logging into. Your private key is secure and never leaves your device, and the password manager keeps it locked by biometrics, PIN, or a password. The public key, on the other hand, could be shared with the world, such as in the case of a website data breach, and your security wouldn't be compromised so long as the private key stays safe.
Getting started is easy. If you don't have it already, install NodeJS. Then, create an empty folder and do this:
npm install meshcentral
node node_modules/meshcentral
That's it. MeshCentral will set itself up and start managing computers on your local network. By default it will be setup in LAN mode and agents you install will multicast on the local network to find the server. To setup the server so that agents use a well known DNS name and to start customizing your server, go in the "meshcentral-data" folder and edit the config.json file. The configuration file must be valid JSON, you can use this link to validate the file format.

But it turns out that Michael Cohen, the lawyer they're hoping to use against former President Donald Trump in the criminal case in Manhattan, was caught using AI for citations that he gave his attorney that were then used in a motion filed with a federal judge.
(...)
This all came out because the judge in the case couldn't find three of the cases cited and ordered on Dec. 12 that Schwartz produce the cases and, if he couldn't, explain how non-existent cases got in his filings along with Cohen's role in them. The judge also asked Schwartz why he should not be sanctioned for made-up cases in his filing.
Think of it as the modern form of,
“Give me six lines…”
[1] Contrary to what people think, guard labour [police] has little or no interest in either justice or correctly solving crime. As I’ve noted before their process is,
1, Build a list of suspects.
2, Prune the list down.
3, Look not for evidence but what a prosecutor can use to confound a jury thus get them to believe in nonsense to obtain a conviction.
4, Get any kind of conviction to keep politicians / funds holders happy.
That is once you are on the guard labours short list they immediately fail to carry out one of their primary requirments which is that of “impartiality”. That is they don’t look for, ignore, or hide information that might show you are innocent, so they can get the case closed quickly and most importantly as cheaply as possible.
One last reflection to stress the importance of our Moon, which keeps the tilt of the Earth stable and limits the amount of wobble along the planetary axis. https://www.universetoday.com/164878/we-owe-our-lives-to-the-moon/
With every shift in the tilt, the seasons would radically change. Instead of regular, predictable changes year after year, we would experience ages with endless summers, or ages with violent but short winters, or anything in between. The rhythm of the seasons provides a pulse for life, which has the freedom to grow and evolve without trying to overcome great climactic shifts caused by a changing axis.
Luna acts as a great gravitational counterweight, stabilizing the motion of the Earth. By providing a source of gravity external to our planet, the Earth’s interior is free to shift and reconfigure as it pleases – the Moon steadies our hand and keeps us upright.

No. What they are saying is the Chinese have no military communications satellite above America, a rather startling discovery. //

Notice the flight path is a direct line through our northern icbm installations.
Tax his land, tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.
Tax his tractor, tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule.
Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.
Tax his ties, tax his shirts,
Tax his work, tax his dirt.
Tax his chew, tax his smoke,
Teach him taxes are no joke.
Tax his car, tax his grass,
Tax the roads he must pass.
Tax his food, tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his sodas, tax his beers,
If he cries, tax his tears.
Tax his bills, tax his gas,
Tax his notes, tax his cash.
Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.
If he hollers, tax him more,
Tax him until he’s good and sore.
Tax his coffin, tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.
Put these words upon his tomb,
“Taxes drove me to my doom!”
And when he’s gone, we won’t relax,
We’ll still be after the inheritance tax.
We are witnessing a wholesale assault on truth and reality, particularly on campuses. There’s a famous line, wrongly attributed to George Orwell, that ‘in a world of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
In that respect, we are revolutionary reality and truth tellers. We do it every day at the blog, and in our two main projects.

According to a new report, the claim that the infamous Chinese spy balloon was blocked from transmitting data as it flew across the mainland United States was false. Astonishingly, the balloon was allowed to connect to a domestic telecommunications service. That connection was then used to send "burst transmissions" back to China, and it's unlikely it was transmitting take-out orders. //
Of course, none of this would have been an issue had Biden had the guts to shoot the spy balloon down when it was still over the Pacific Ocean. As RedState previously reported, it was detected long before it reached the U.S. mainland. Biden let it transit across anyway, not making the call to blow it out of the sky until it got off the South Carolina coast. The public finding out about it is what ruined his plan to let the thing pass over unmolested.

The Linux Foundation has released their 2023 Annual Report... and it is an absolute doozy.
The first big headline?
As of 2023, The Linux Foundation now spends just 2% -- that's two percent -- of their revenue on their namesake: The Linux Kernel. //
Your eyes do not deceive you.
- Linux : 2%
- Blockchain : 4%
- A.I. : 12%
While it's true that The Linux Foundaiton continues to grow substantially -- now bringing in over a quarter of a Billion dollars per year (seriously) -- the total amount spent on the Linux kernel dropped roughly $400,000 in 2023. (Not surprising as The Lunduke Journal previously pointed out that lowering the total support of Linux appeared to be the goal.)
The Center For Alternative Technologies in the UK delves into embedded carbon in residential storage batteries. It says the carbon footprint of current lithium ion batteries is around 100 kg of carbon dioxide per KWH of battery capacity when manufactured in factories that use fossil fuels. When renewable energy is used for the manufacturing, this is reduced to about 60 kg of CO2 per kWh.
Tossing aside Godfather, we’re on pretty thin ground for fabulous Hollywood trilogies. This is entirely to be expected. Hollywood doesn’t make trilogies because stories need to be carried over three films. Hollywood makes trilogies because film number one hit big and the studio wants to crank up the money machine. Hollywood Film Trilogies, almost by definition, are not creatively necessary, merely financially desirable. In the history of film, Rings is very nearly unique because it was conceived as a trilogy — it was understood going into the production that the arc of the story would take three films. Comparing this intentional trilogy to other, basically unintentional film trilogies is comparing apples to oranges. //
Until 2005, at least, Rings is literally sui generis.
Indeed, in all the cases above, the film version of the story is the definitive version — the original text is, at best, complementary to the film. This is because the film is the better telling of the story. And it’s not simply because some stories are better told as films for visual purposes. It’s because the texts did not best express the story. It doesn’t mean the books are bad — Baum’s Oz books, for one, are a delightful read. It simply means the story is more completely serviced in film.
As is the case with The Lord of the Rings. Director Peter Jackson is famously a huge fan of the Tolkien books, but based on the movies (and the various commentary I’ve read from and about the man) I think it’s more accurate to say he’s a huge fan of Middle-Earth — he seems very nearly enamored of the work other artists have done in the place as he is with Tolkien’s prose.
After The Return of the King was released, I wrote two longish essays about the film trilogy, one attempting to explain where it sat in terms of film history, and a second, somewhat more controversial, in which I posited that the film trilogy was better than the book trilogy, in terms of storytelling. Rather than to repeat the points made in those essays, I will simply link to them here, for your perusal at your own convenience. Likewise, because I assume my audience of readers has seen these films, over and over and over again, I won’t spend any time substantially revisiting the plot or themes of the trilogy. You know it, you’ve seen it, you can whistle “Concerning Hobbits” unprompted.
Instead, allow me to present a series of five thoughts about the The Lord of the Rings, both the individual movies, and the production itself.
